Frequently Asked Questions
What are the common behavioral changes after brain injury? After a serious illness or traumatic brain injury, individuals may experience a variety of behavioral challenges, including anxiety, anger, fears, and a negative self-image. Emotional ups and downs, irritability, and difficulty connecting emotionally with friends and loved ones are also common. These issues can strain family relationships and make it harder to maintain meaningful connections with others.
How long does psychotherapy last? The duration of an individual’s psychotherapy plan can vary widely, depending on factors such as the severity of the injury, personal goals, and specific challenges. While some may only need a few months of treatment, others may require ongoing support for an extended period or even throughout their lifetime.
Why do behaviors change after a brain injury? A brain injury can significantly alter how a person’s brain functions, affecting their ability to control behavior, especially in stressful situations. Often, this difficulty is the result of a combination of factors. For instance, an individual with a brain injury may experience challenges with cognitive functions and thinking skills, which can lead to frustration and trigger negative emotional responses, causing them to lash out.
